Blencathra via Halls Fell Ridge Route Description. 1 - Make your way into the village and head northeast along the lane called Fell Side towards Gategill Farm. After passing a small business park on the right, leave the lane by bearing left up a stony track which leads to Gategill Farm itself. Pass through the farmyard via a gate and head up.

Halls Fell Ridge is a succession of low crags that gradually rise to the summit, while Sharp Edge is the most exposed grade 1 scramble in the Lake District. Climbing Sharp Edge requires nerves of steel, a head for heights, and steady hands and feet. It is not to be undertaken lightly, but you can still enjoy a great hike by avoiding the worst.

This is a very challenging route that will require very careful footing, a head for heights, and scrambling experience as you make your up the very narrow and exposed Sharp Edge to the summit of Blencathra and down the equally exposed and steep Halls Fell Ridge. Starting in a lay-by on the A66 (take care when crossing), the trail heads into the hills and begins to climb beside the River.

To reach the car park for the Blencathra & Halls Fell Ridge Walk from Keswick, head east on Penrith Road for 1.3 km and turn left onto Penrith Road/A591. After 0.8 km, merge onto the A66 and follow it for 3.5 km. Make a left and continue on for 0.6 km before turning left onto Blease Road. You will find the car park on the right in 0.3 km.
