1.8″ TFT LCD display on Raspberry Pi This project is now available for sale in the store I figured my cheap 1.8″ TFT display is useless on an Arduino as it pretty much eats the available memory (20K for simple sketches), so I decided to try it on my Raspberry Pi.

system September 30, 2012, 10:50pm 6. SDA/SCK suggests I2C not SPI. The datasheet says 4-/3-wire spi, no mention of i2c. If it were truly i2c compliant, it would have used SCL / SDA. SDA can be used to mean serial data for spi. The datasheet you linked to has code to drive this lcd, written (poorly) for C51.

This display, which is extremely similar to the AdaFruit ST7735, is frequently found on ebay and is a great 1.8 inch SPI TFT display. It also includes an SD Card slot, also available via SPI. The main issue with the display is the fact that the pin out marked on the PCB solder mask is completely wrong.

In this example, we connect HY-1.8 SPI TFT display (160x128) to Neutis Developer board. We're going to use SPI0, PA9 and PA10 to control the display, but you can practice with SPI1 and other GPIO pins as well. Just make sure that overlay for SPI1 is enabled in your /boot/Env.txt and you're using the right pins.

I did try using only a single resistor on the control lines using the exact same display board, the KMR-1.8, and it did fix the brightness problem but after looking at the signals on an oscilloscope I think I'll either go with a level shifter circuit or the voltage divider (2 resistors per pin).
